Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to examine the characteristics influencing, and determinants of regional nursing graduates¡¯ geographical mobility regarding finding employment.
Methods: We accessed the Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey 2015?2019 data for 900 hospital nurses classified as regional nursing graduates.
Results: In total, 58.1% of the regional nursing graduates remained in the school regions for 1.5 years after graduation. Conversely, 41.9% transitioned to other regions, with 22.6% moving to Seoul and 19.3% relocating to areas outside of Seoul. The probability of finding employment in Seoul was higher among nurses with a higher reservation wage, those who graduated from a high school in a region other than their nursing school region, received foreign language training, and had higher nursing school performance, and among nursing university graduates.
Conclusions: Governments and hospitals should enhance the nursing environment to prevent the exodus and turnover of regional nursing graduates.
